Corporate Finance and Investments (CFA)

CORPORATE FINANCE AND INVESTMENTS TOGETHER IN BRAND NEW CFA LEVEL 1 CLINIC in London and Amsterdam

Introduction

The CFA Institute, with its main office in Charlottesville, Virginia (USA), awarded credentials (“chartered financial analyst”) to its first group of students back in 1963. Since then the CFA program has become the benchmark of professional expertise in the investment industry worldwide. In essence, the CFA program tests the student’s mastery of a body of knowledge through a series of exams. The program has now grown to more than 170,000 candidates (representing over 160 nationalities) being registered for the exams each year. The number of CFA charter holders has increased to around 80,000. The CFA institute delivers information for preparing the exams, but is not engaged in organizing courses.

Contents

The body of knowledge covered in the course covers a wide range of subjects including quantitative techniques, economics, financial statement analysis, corporate finance, equity, debt, derivatives, alternative investments, portfolio management and ethics. The knowledge gained while studying is invaluable to students’ future careers in the investment industry, but is also useful for professionals in treasury and control as well as other financial professionals.

Clinic structure and program

The clinic is organized as a kind of crash course. Therefore, participating in the clinic makes sense only in combination with a lot of self-study. For students who are prepared to do the self-study, and indeed enjoy it and have some relevant experience, the clinic is extremely efficient for preparing the CFA1 exam. Other students will need to consider if other educational programs are preferable. If necessary, RISKMATRIX can give advice.

The clinic is organized in several parts:

Day 1

Start-up phase. An introduction is given to the CFA 1 exam requirements and guidelines are discussed for self-study. After this day, which is held in Amsterdam, it is assumed that students will study the material thoroughly and intensively.

Break for intensive self study

Days 2 - 6

Revision phase. Each subject is reviewed over a five-day period, with the focus being on question practice and exam technique. These days are organized in London.

Break for intensive self study

Day 7

Mock exam in Amsterdam.

Break for intensive self study

Official exam.
